Initially built as a palace for the second Sultan of Zanzibar, this modern-looking residence was the first building on the island to have electricity. Continue your exploration to uncover hidden treasures throughout Stone Town. Visit the first home of Freddie Mercury, the iconic lead singer of Queen, capture photos of the weather-worn walls of the 17th-century Old Fort (built to defend the island from the Portuguese), and explore the Christ Church, with coral stone walls erected atop the former slave market site.
